Key: estimated guesstimated using federal budget
The table shows overall government receiptsfederal revenue, state revenue, and local revenuein the United States of America for all levels of government for the specified fiscal year. Revenue totals are aggregated for each major source of revenue.
Federal receipts for 1962 through 2013 is based on federal data on receipts in the presidents budget. State and local receipts for 1992 through 2013 are derived from spending, revenue, and debt codes in the Census Bureaus census of state and local government finances.
State and local revenue between 1971 and 1991 is obtained from Statistical Abstract of the United States.
Federal revenue prior to 1962 and state and local revenue prior to 1971 is obtained from Bicentennial Edition: Historical Statistics of the United States, Colonial Times to 1970.
